"Good Evening - we are from Ukraine" TV Program

About

In response to the growing wave of disinformation following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova (NCUM) partnered with the national broadcaster TV8 in 2022 to launch the media initiative “Good Evening – We Are from Ukraine.” The project aimed to counter false narratives, inform the Moldovan public about the realities of the war, and support displaced Ukrainians by providing timely and verified information on available services, legal rights, and support mechanisms. The initiative took the form of a weekly prime-time talk show broadcast on national television over two seasons.

The program provided a space for dialogue between decision-makers, civil society representatives, humanitarian actors, media professionals, and members of refugee and host communities. It highlighted systemic gaps in the national and humanitarian response, fostered informed public discussion, and contributed to identifying coordinated solutions.

In 2024, the program’s second season placed a strong focus on social cohesion, exploring the intersections between the needs of refugees and host communities. Episodes examined shared challenges such as access to education, healthcare, housing, and employment, while also presenting positive examples of cooperation and solidarity. With more than four million views across television and digital platforms, the show expanded its reach significantly and became a trusted source of accurate information for diverse audiences. It strengthened public awareness, encouraged constructive discourse, and built understanding between Moldovan citizens and displaced Ukrainians.

The project set an important precedent in Moldova, demonstrating how civil society organizations, media institutions, and development partners can collaborate to respond to complex crises using modern communication tools. The show contributed to increased transparency, reduced information gaps, and promoted a more inclusive public narrative around displacement, rights, and national resilience.

The initiative was made possible through the financial and technical support of USAID Moldova, and was implemented in strategic collaboration with TV8, Moldova’s leading independent broadcaster. This partnership ensured high-quality production, editorial independence, and nationwide dissemination. The program featured a wide range of prominent guests, including advisors to the Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova, ministers and parliamentarians, UN agency representatives, international organizations, civil society leaders, and investigative journalists. Special military correspondents and the authors of the documentary “Road of War: Drumul Războiului” also contributed to several episodes, offering field-based perspectives and human stories from the frontlines. Through these partnerships, the program succeeded in bridging media, humanitarian, and policy perspectives, delivering content that was both informative and actionable.
