CASH FOR WORK

About
The Cash for Work program, implemented by the National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova (NCUM) in partnership with ATIC and with the support of UN Women, is designed to strengthen the socioeconomic integration of Ukrainian refugee women in Moldova through targeted employment and entrepreneurship support. The initiative focuses on enabling access to vocational training, essential equipment, and employment opportunities, while offering direct financial assistance of up to 10,000 MDL per beneficiary.
Launched in May 2024 at the Tech Career Expo in Cahul, the program has received significant interest, with over 817 applications submitted in two rounds. Applicants included women seeking support for launching micro-businesses, gaining vocational skills, and covering startup-related expenses. Through a multi-stage selection process involving interviews and documentation review, 151 women were approved and supported under the program. The selection criteria prioritized individuals from vulnerable categories to ensure inclusive access.
In parallel, NCUM conducted an information campaign across Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram, reaching over 42,000 people online and sharing program details in 30 dedicated channels and groups targeting Ukrainian refugees.
The program not only provided financial support but also ensured institutional coordination for beneficiary contracts, case management, and monitoring. Multiple consultations were held with legal and programmatic experts to streamline the process and ensure transparency.
By offering direct, flexible support tailored to the needs of displaced women, the Cash for Work initiative contributes to building resilience, enhancing self-reliance, and promoting gender-responsive economic recovery. NCUM continues to work with partners to finalize implementation and support long-term pathways to economic inclusion for refugee women in Moldova.
