"Back to School" Campaign Launches: Supporting Ukrainian Families Preparing for the New Academic Year in Moldova

The National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova (NCUM) is a national-level public association established on May 6, 2021, with the purpose of representing the interests and consolidating the efforts of the Ukrainian community in the Republic of Moldova. The organization brings together ethnic Ukrainians, civil society actors, cultural organizations, community leaders, representatives of local public authorities, and networks of women and youth from across the country.NCUM functions as an umbrella platform for dialogue, coordination, and advocacy, aiming to ensure meaningful participation of Ukrainians in Moldova’s public, cultural, and socio-economic spheres. It engages with both governmental and international partners to address community needs and facilitate inclusive policy development.
NCUM’s mandate includes safeguarding the rights of persons belonging to the Ukrainian minority, supporting their social and civic integration, promoting Ukrainian language and culture, and strengthening institutional mechanisms for minority representation. NCUM actively participates in national consultative processes, contributes to the development of minority policy frameworks, and supports access to services, education, and employment for members of the Ukrainian community, including displaced persons from Ukraine.Since its establishment, NCUM has worked in coordination with national institutions, foreign embassies, international organizations, and civil society coalitions to support humanitarian assistance, cultural preservation, community mobilization, and refugee response in Moldova.
The National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova (NCUM), in partnership with UNICEF Moldova, has launched the "Back to School" information campaign as part of the ongoing project "Every Child Protected in Moldova". The campaign aims to provide Ukrainian parents with clear, reliable, and timely information about education opportunities in Moldova for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Over the coming weeks, NCUM will publish a series of informational materials through its official communication platforms. These materials are designed to help Ukrainian families navigate the school enrollment process and ensure that all displaced children have access to their right to education in a safe and inclusive environment.
What the Campaign Covers
Families will receive step-by-step guidance on:
- How to enroll children in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, colleges, or universities
- The required documentation for enrollment
- The rights and guarantees available to Ukrainian children in Moldova
- Accessing medical examinations and vaccinations prior to school entry
- Inclusive education services for children with disabilities
- Education is a fundamental right of every child, regardless of their displacement status
- Access to education accelerates integration, supports language acquisition, and promotes emotional well-being
- Schools and universities offer safe spaces for learning, growth, and social inclusion in a new environment
NCUM encourages all parents and caregivers of school- and university-aged children to follow the campaign updates. The "Back to School" initiative will cover all key stages of enrollment and highlight the most relevant support mechanisms available to Ukrainian families living in Moldova.
